Our intrepid ASSN Help Coordinator has found the following groups / services in the greater Geelong area:
Gateways Support Services - Groups run by Gateways include:
- Geelong Youth Group - is a social group for young people with disabilities aged between 10 and 18-years. This groups meets on four Saturdays during each school term.
- Colac Youth Group - is a social group for young people with disabilities aged 15-years and more.
- Get About Town - this group meets monthly and is a social groups for young people with a physical disability.
- Winning Days - for people with Asperger Syndrome aged between 14 and 18-years. This group meets fortnightly during the school term.
- The Get Up & Go Club - The Get Up and Go Club supports young adults with disabilities/additional needs by giving them an opportunity to maintain friendships by providing a range of social and leisure activities.
- The Get Up & Go Club aims to offer young adults, aged 18-years or more, with a disability/additional need the opportunity to participate in group recreation and leisure activities within their community.
- The group is as inclusive as possible and gives participants the chance to access activities in their community, within a safe and supportive environment. The group has a designated leader, who facilitates the group’s activities and ensures that the activities reflect group member’s interests
- The Get Up & Go Club provides a respite and recreational service to people aged 18-years and more, who have a disability and receive the Disability Support Pension. Participants must also reside at home with their primary carer.
- Referrals may be made by case managers, service providers or primary care givers.
- The Get Up and & Go Club runs during each school term throughout the year. The program is usually offered on a weekly basis, generally on Friday night or Saturday during the day.
- Access to the group is divided between all registered clients to ensure each individual has the same opportunity to attend.
- Activity costs range from $10 to $25 per session, depending on the activity.
