About Us
The Asperger Syndrome Support Network Victoria (ASSN Vic) is a non-profit organisation established in 1991 by a group of parents of those with Asperger Syndrome. We seek to provide support, a forum for discussion and education for those caring for, or living with Asperger Syndrome within Victoria.
ASSN Vic does not receive any government funding and relies on members to provide its services.
With over 400 members in Victoria, we provide a wide variety of services including: a telephone information line (03) 9845 2766, a quarterly newsletter, regular support meetings, seminars and library resources with plenty of information about the condition.

Aims and Objectives of ASSN Vic:-
- Give mutual support
- Provide relevant information
- Support research
- Engage in community education
- Campaign for change
- Provide relevant services to members
- Provide a resource library
- Maintain a register of professionals familiar with Asperger Syndrome
- Maintain links with other associations
The Committee
The ASSN Vic committee is made up of parents, carers, partners and adults with AS. We meet monthly to discuss the day-to-day running of our organisation. Each of us gives voluntarily of our time, energy and skills across a variety of roles and tasks.
Our Network is only as good as the people involved, and as such, we are always looking for more people to be involved. We don’t expect you to be an expert in anything to join our committee, but if you are willing to commit some of your time and attend at least four monthly meetings per year, there is plenty of variety on offer.
The types of activities/roles carried out by the committee include:-
- Running a support group
- Writing and editing content for our quarterly newsletter
- Providing phone support occasionally for the information line
- Acting as treasurer, secretary, or events coordinator
- Managing our membership database
- Website design, maintenance and updates
- Library support - purchasing new resources and keeping an eye on borrowings
- Research Co-ordinator - reviewing requests for participation etc
- Administration tasks – for example to help post some newsletters.
We would love to hear from you! Come along to a meeting or two, with no obligation, to see if you want to be more involved. Our AGM is held in October each year, on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
We meet from 7:30-10pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month, at The Nerve Centre, 54 Railway Rd, Blackburn. Parking is available off Solwood Lane.
